We had a number of trees that had fallen into an open field that we had to cut up and we got to clear the remainder of the logging road that we had started another weekend. Where this road had washed, we took a pick axe, post bar and shovel and tried to make it as safe as we could for the time we had available. The ground was froze down a couple of inches and the rain wasn't holding off, we spent a good 2.5-3 hours just on this, it is navigable...so use CAUTION here, it is marked off!
We have just a couple more arms full of signs to put out and we should be set for the season, providing something else don't come up!

( 2.9 / 48 )This is starting to look like another one of those winters that we have started becoming accustomed to...not necessarily what we want! However it has given us much needed time to complete some of the issues that were facing us, as far as possibly being faced with some re-routes. Out of the 4 we were faced with...we're down to one. Things are looking more promising all the while. Unfortunately, we've had to hold off signing on the last stretch until we had the definite as to where we were going...now we need the weather to hold to complete this up. And the effort that everyone has put forth in making this happen is nothing short of commendable...THANK YOU to those that have made this happen!
Please remember...Trails are Closed under 6" of snow and not until the close of deer season, which should leave us not sooner than the 21st. Pay attention to signing changes and follow the signed trail, not necessarily where you have known the trail to be!

( 3.8 / 5 )Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I spent a couple of days signing as I had a chance between different family dinners...good way to make room for the next one! We put the finishing touches on both bridges we'd been working on...rails, decking, track and ski guides. And spent a bit more time now trying to get our signing completed. Pretty much from here on out this is what we will try and focus on until snow flies and season opens (AFTER deer season).

( 2.8 / 71 )We finally got the permission to reroute the bridge on C7E that we have been plagued by the beavers on. We moved it upstream over faster water and away from a lot of their food source. We'll need to get back to put some rails on the bridge, but this was pretty good, since we only just arrived on the site to check what could be done, the actual plans of leaving with a completed bridge in place were pretty much non-existent. We had the equipment available, since we reset an existing bridge earlier in the morning that had been somewhat washed from recent high water. We found that once we got to sizing up for the bridge, that there was still a bunch of material on site from a bridge that had washed from the flood of 2006, that the landowner gladly let us use. Other than the concrete blocks used for buttments, we used what was on site.
A couple of us spent some time trying to reroute around a driveway that we had been previously using, but the landowner requested we try to find another way, which would be better anyway since its bared off most of the winter anyway. The route that seemed the easiest to do turns out to have such a steep knoll that we just can't take the chance of running all sleds that way. So... we need to find a better way...stay tuned on this!

The old bridge went through between the trees in front of where the fellas are standing.

We had a bridge that 'may have been' alright for a couple more years, (though some boards were split and had some broken edges)even one support lacked 8" from touching the ground, but due to the design of it, we couldn't get our new groomers across it, so we needed to re-do this one to make it work. We still need to put some new deck boards on and rails, but in the end, we've improved the approaches and still left the landowner access to cross the creek as needed with his own equipment.
We did some trail signing off in another direction as well. We're starting to be on the downhill side of having fair weather left for all we'd like to get done, but... we'll do what we can and have time for, then that'll leave something to look foward to next year!
