Amazing, just when it appeared that there may even be an actual winter, with snow... gone! Hopefully, with the return of some frigid air, it will help lessen the flooding and tighten things up again, though no big snows in sight, maybe some lake effects will help.
A couple of us took advantage of the warm air and now soft ground, to add to some of the signing in an area that we've kind of fell short in. And while there, took the opportunity to route around a mud hole. We used what posts we had with us just in time, just started pooring, fortunately it was short lived.

We've had a couple of days of decent snow, as trails open please be aware of down limbs yet from the previous ice storm. In some places it may be impossible to even get through. We are in the process of clearing the downfall, with the snow it takes much more effort. Today we split off into two seperate groups, being fortunate to get that kind of help as trails open. AND PLEASE THANK THE TRAIL CREW, THEY'VE BUSTED HUMP TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN! One crew started off Rabbit Run and worked toward County 36A. With it snowing and working in snow up to our knees in spots, it took us almost 6 hours to clear 2.5 kilometers (speedometer is metric). We were soaked, tired and now a cold ride back.
A second crew worked to open a club (non-funded) trail and clear a section in the stateland and then go on to complete the short section of re-route off Bice Rd., to get the trails open to make them rideable.

Just as we're getting close to completion of getting the trailwork done for the start of the season, along comes this ice storm, and it's like we never started. We went out to start signing and there were trees down everywhere and limbs overhanging the trails in the chrystal chandelier forest. Hopefully, with a couple of warmer days coming, it'll help the hanging limbs or we'll have a lot of clearing to do AGAIN!
With the upcoming snows, should the trails open, please be cautious as some sections may yet need to be cleared. Be patient and we'll get back around to them.

Behind on Workdates
With Thanksgiving and deer season, the upcoming holidays and birthdays, meetings and e-mails, some landowner relations (well you get the picture!) I've gotten a bit behind on our trail updates. We've managed to get a good share of our signing completed, though there is still a bit to do. We've had some crews out late afternoons and Saturdays to halp catch up. During deer season, it's tough to get where you need to and not get run off someone's property, so we try to save it. But the ground is starting to get mighty hard and worse yet is in some places there are still crops that haven't been harvested. A couple weeks ago, we were able to get a trouble spot re-routed off the berm of a diversion ditch which makes it nice for sleds without studs and a whole lot nicer for the groomers to get around this.
Deer season is about over, just remember there will still be black powder hunters out, please be courteous to them. Trails will be open when deer season is over, providing there is enough snow. *Remember* TRAILS CLOSED UNDER 6" OF SNOW! Respect the landowner's property, it's what helps to keep the trails open year after year.

With the opening of deer season this past weekend, we tried to keep anything we wanted to get done, confined to some areas where we wouldn't be any bother to the hunters. We split off into two seperate crews and got some signing done in spots on all three of our main trails. Hopefully, weather permitting, and it should yet, we just have to finish up our re-route off Bice Rd., clear some downed trees to get around a diversion ditch that has been a trouble spot for our groomers and put in a couple of culverts in a run-off area and for this year that should leave us with just the rest of our signing to do.
The forcast for this week shows cold and lake effects snow for the whole coming week. A sign for things to come? THINK SNOW!
