And while some of us attend these shows, yes, trail work is still underway... it just takes me longer to tell you. Each weekend we take a section of trail and go over it clearing any windfall or cutting back some overhanging limbs and briars (you know, hood scratchers and ear grabbers) and as we do these sections we drag along a pull behind brushog where needed and review any signing needs as we're installing them.
We've compiled a list of things that we'd like to achieve this year, such as added culverts or possible safety issues or maybe just little things that just make the ride more enjoyable, let's see how many we get to.

( 3 / 133 )We had a logging road that has a slow steam running along it most of the season, so we had one crew able to go up and put a couple of 12" tubes in it and dressed it off pretty nicely. Then they spent the rest of the day into the twilight hours cutting the rest of our signposts for the season and putting points on them.
We had another crew that started brushing the new portion of trail and draining off some wet spots with a shovel, until we can get a piece of equipment in there to make the job more permanent.

( 3.1 / 169 )We finally got to make use of a sunny day instead of running around in the rain, although there is still alot of wet ground out there. The new portion of trail that we took over maintenance on has a distance that runs along some town roads due to landowner closures. We have an oppurtunity to get around this by being able to use some freshly logged County property and then by being able get through on some private property that is used primarily by forestry companies. We took the time to see if there was a possible route through and flag it out so we can find our way back through providing we get the final okay from the landowners. We have other trail mileage on both of these landowners, so we're hoping this won't be an issue. The route we found, with the exception of a hundred yards or so, is pretty much cut and dry, mostly on what has been used for logging roads, so other than some light cutting and trimming and some ground clean up...8:30-12:30 3 members

( 3 / 186 )It feels as if last season just got over and we're ready to start another one. The local County Fairs are going on and has typically been the unofficial start of the upcoming season, with the display of the new year models. It seems as if the summer just flew by! (I've been told that some are still waiting for summer)
Club meetings are scheduled to start, (ours is tues. 8/11/09), our phase 2 paperwork for funding will be due in a couple of weeks, and our seasonal trailwork will soon begin.
With the cooler than normal summer, hopefully it can be the sign of a good season coming. We have some newly aquired trail mileage to take care of this year and have applied for trail upgrades, and we want to paint as many sign posts as possible a bright orange for better visibility so we have a busy fall coming up to get ready for the upcoming season.
Stay Tuned...

( 3.1 / 259 )Hard to believe we've had March's that have had blizzards and monumental snow and now this year spring temps and no snow... and the season was going so well.
Unfortunately, its time to pull in the signs and close the gates 'til next season. We'll get this years end of season done just in time to start for next year. Snow is gone, but to keep the trail system going, we're already involved in next season's preperations, including paperwork for funding, possible trail re-routes, trail repairs or even improvements in trail signing.
Upcoming, will be the annual Forum with the Office of Parks and Recreation and Historic Preservation. This is kind of the transition for finishing up with last year and starting in with the next season's trail grants.
Look for upcoming events through the summer, such as vintage shows and races. It helps make the season a little more seemless.
