Heading into another season
Here we are, the 1st of Aug, its fair time once again, the end of a seemingly long Little League season ended yesterday and we're at the doorstep of yet another season. We got our last season's phase 3 process for funding finally behind us, after a few snags in the audit process. Phase 1 for the new season, completed right behind it. We are now right in the middle of our phase 2, to be completed and received at Parks by Sept. 1st. We will be having our trail committee and/or BOD meeting this month and by Sept our regular meetings will begin for the upcoming season. In our trail meeting we will discuss the completed work from last year and what we never got to, then on to what may need our attention for the upcoming season. There are always things that we'd like to get done and it seems that some we never get to, but we have to prioritize them by what is really necessary over what is just something that would just be nicer if it were improved. Suggestions are always welcome and so is any extra help along with our yearly trail preparations. Hope to see everyone soon!

Season's Over?
Everyone always has a hope of having one last portage...Ummmm, I guess that isn't gonna happen now! Well, we're in the midst of pulling the signs and closing the gates 'til next season. We'll get our year end paperwork done...just in time to start again for next year.
We may not be able to ride, but for some it feels like season is never over...SUMMER SUCKS!

Update 16-Feb-10
I think the last winter that presented itself this way, was the winter of '96-97. It was the year we picked up my wife's '96 XCR, we had our thaw and winter never returned here south of the thruway. The only way we got any miles on it that year was to trailer north the rest of the season.
We've had the promise of a couple of good snows... are there any trails open south of the Mason-Dixon? Today was forcasted for a little more, but the warm temps, kind of held the accumulation down. Snow wasn't even sticking to the vehicles most of the day. So much for our would be "clipper"!
On another note, since our thaw, our beaver problem has made a bit of a comeback with water running acrossed C7E. First thoughts were that high water had even moved the bridge. With a quick inspection it appears to have stayed put.

Some of our trail crew managed to go out and wave their "water-B-gone" rods and got the water to recede back under the bridge. Hopefully, we'll be set for the rest of this winter, we'll keep an eye on it!

It's almost like we have been here before... we got the cold, we got the snow... then rain into 45 deg and sunshine! Well, we got the chance to hit a couple of the last little segments that either needed some signage improvements or just some that we missed.
While we have started servicing some of the groomers to get them ready, we still have a couple more to finish up and another that we picked up, that we have to get set up to help with the added mileage this year.
According to AccuWeather... "cold January with snow" between now and the 1st, were supposed to see 8" of snow and then depending on how the storm in the midwest tracks... looks like another nor'easter??? I think at this point that the trails are fit up pretty well and should make for some very enjoyable riding as long as mother nature takes care of her part!
As the trails open, RIDE SAFE and RESPECT our LANDOWNERS!

Here is wishing everyone a safe and Happy New Year!

We've managed to put in another couple of weekends continuing with our signing and re-marking portions of our trails. We started the pre-season with somewhat of a list of projects that we really wanted to accomplish. We started on them by what we felt was higher priority, but as the season progresses it becomes harder and harder to do that part of our trailwork, which leaves us with just signing... which is no less important, just less exciting. What we don't get done this year, providing it isn't a safety concern, will be what we will try to focus on at the start of next year. Nothing is left that would leave the trails impassible, just things that we feel would make more comfortable improvements on the trail itself.
As we approach the start of our riding season, I just want to send out this reminder though, as the first riders go out, please BE AWARE that not all gates may be open yet. Deer season isn't over until (I believe, the 22nd) and these landowners don't want the intrusion until then. And as well, the trails are still closed under 6" of snow. With minimal snow cover, there are still hidden trail hazards that can also do damage to your sled. Just take the first ride easy and look the trail over and enjoy the ride!
And I forgot to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
