A few of us have spent some time here around the holidays, when possible to fit it in, to try and catch up with some of our unfinished signing. Our last obstacle (landowner closure) is finally re-routed. The unfortunate part is, because of it's proximity to a village and big creek and the fact that the landowner has put up a high tensile fence to house beef, we are stuck to a few hundred more feet of road edge running. But now, at least, the trail remains continent. The biggest thing is to watch for the signing changes. There is no guarantee at this point, that a small portion of this won't change again next year, due to a possible sale and again the possibility of more fenced of beef pasture. We have already scoped out a real good re-route possibility, but also would like to maintain the possibility of keeping access to Fly Creek for gas, if needed.
We had a number of trees that had fallen into an open field that we had to cut up and we got to clear the remainder of the logging road that we had started another weekend. Where this road had washed, we took a pick axe, post bar and shovel and tried to make it as safe as we could for the time we had available. The ground was froze down a couple of inches and the rain wasn't holding off, we spent a good 2.5-3 hours just on this, it is navigable...so use CAUTION here, it is marked off!

We have just a couple more arms full of signs to put out and we should be set for the season, providing something else don't come up!

Look Back Soon!
Jim

This is starting to look like another one of those winters that we have started becoming accustomed to...not necessarily what we want! However it has given us much needed time to complete some of the issues that were facing us, as far as possibly being faced with some re-routes. Out of the 4 we were faced with...we're down to one. Things are looking more promising all the while. Unfortunately, we've had to hold off signing on the last stretch until we had the definite as to where we were going...now we need the weather to hold to complete this up. And the effort that everyone has put forth in making this happen is nothing short of commendable...THANK YOU to those that have made this happen!
Please remember...Trails are Closed under 6" of snow and not until the close of deer season, which should leave us not sooner than the 21st. Pay attention to signing changes and follow the signed trail, not necessarily where you have known the trail to be!

Look Back Soon!
Jim

I spent a couple of days signing as I had a chance between different family dinners...good way to make room for the next one! We put the finishing touches on both bridges we'd been working on...rails, decking, track and ski guides. And spent a bit more time now trying to get our signing completed. Pretty much from here on out this is what we will try and focus on until snow flies and season opens (AFTER deer season).

Look Back Soon!
Jim

We finally got the permission to reroute the bridge on C7E that we have been plagued by the beavers on. We moved it upstream over faster water and away from a lot of their food source. We'll need to get back to put some rails on the bridge, but this was pretty good, since we only just arrived on the site to check what could be done, the actual plans of leaving with a completed bridge in place were pretty much non-existent. We had the equipment available, since we reset an existing bridge earlier in the morning that had been somewhat washed from recent high water. We found that once we got to sizing up for the bridge, that there was still a bunch of material on site from a bridge that had washed from the flood of 2006, that the landowner gladly let us use. Other than the concrete blocks used for buttments, we used what was on site.

A couple of us spent some time trying to reroute around a driveway that we had been previously using, but the landowner requested we try to find another way, which would be better anyway since its bared off most of the winter anyway. The route that seemed the easiest to do turns out to have such a steep knoll that we just can't take the chance of running all sleds that way. So... we need to find a better way...stay tuned on this!

Look Back Soon!
Jim

We still need to put some new deck boards on and rails, but in the end, we've improved the approaches and still left the landowner access to cross the creek as needed with his own equipment.
We did some trail signing off in another direction as well. We're starting to be on the downhill side of having fair weather left for all we'd like to get done, but... we'll do what we can and have time for, then that'll leave something to look foward to next year!

Look Back Soon!
Jim

We've been getting around and covering portions of the trails, that over the years, tend to have a need for continued attention. As usual...there are trees down, though, instead of the usual one or two, its three and four. We have a hill on C7D that trenched down the center, just enough to really lay a sled on its side. (this we need to get back to) We pulled out an older bridge, 8 x 17 that the deck boards had pretty much rotted on and replaced it with a double 24" x 15' culvert, which turned out pretty nice. this will allow for a lot straighter shot to the bridge and lessens the approach for better groomer access. Also, as an answer to a landowner request, we were able to spot a couple loads of gravel along side of his driveway over top of an extended culvert...this will allow better and safer travel over this culvert as well as aiding in snow removal from the driveway without sled traffic.

Look Back Soon!
Jim

This year is falling a bit out of the norm...We are involved in our trailwork and it is ongoing, but with the flooding concerns we had earlier in the season, the economy, et-all...our trailwork is being done a bit more random and as our crews have time available to them, instead of scheduled work days. This make it a bit tougher to give a normally planned update. Our paperwork this year will be done electronically, this leads to a bit of a learning curve. Bare with us and you are cordially invited to join us on Facebook for other updates to, not just our trails, but what is going on in the industry as well!
Here are a couple of pics where we got what has in turn, been a fairly hazardous corner, shaped around rather nicely...this should make it a lot safer and more navigable! (Yup, it's that time!) While others are still looking to have the rest of their summer outings and vacations, for us snowmobilers, fall vintage shows will start, grass drags are on the horizon and the pre-season shows are just around the corner. We'll be getting together shortly to decide upon what needs the greatest attention to maintain and improve our trails, and our work weekends will begin.

Look Back Soon!
Jim

For the most part this has been quite an exceptional year in comparison to what we've had recently. In the beginning of the season, as in normal years, people can't wait to ride and its amazing how little snow they'll ride on. You can always tell when people have had their fill of riding...late in the season we still had more snow, than we've even had snow in some years and people quit riding.
But now its time to start putting stuff away, pulling the signs and closing the gates. But thanks to the trail workers and groomer operators for a great riding season.
Which brings us to another note...we have a couple of new additions to our grooming fleet. We have picked up a couple of older Track Trucks ('89 and '91) to help cover our mileage better and to help groom to a wider width, which will also help us pull in the corners better and keep them from banking up, making them safer.
See...looking foward to next season, already!

Look Back Soon!
Jim

Spent the last couple of weekends, still yet, working on finishing up on some signing. Of course, the colder it gets and the added snow, makes every step involved, that much harder. This morning was no different...it was 1 deg when we started out. We have a couple of last minute improvements that have presented themselves, so along with the help of a landowner, the trail that runs along side of his driveway, was able to be widened, without actually running into the driveway and the culvert was extended, but this will have to wait until warmer weather to be able add fill to cover the culvert, but is still wider than in previous years.
Yet another driveway that we have been able to run along, has in previous years, is a bit of an issue. If we can get the sledders to use common sense in use of this driveway, we'll still be in good shape. All that is asked, is that we stay to one side to make it easier to keep snow removed for vehicular travel. Signs are there, please pay attention and watch for cars and kids! And please SLOW DOWN...it is someones driveway!
We have a temporary re-route proposed to get around the water over the bridge problem, seen in the earlier picture, although, the water has receded a bit and is passible at this time.
5 members present 8:30 - 2:30

Look Back Soon!
Jim
